My name is Precious Mncube, and I am a registered Clinical Psychologist and Social Worker. I completed my Bachelor of Social Work with a double major in Psychology at the University of the Western Cape. Followed by my Honours in Psychology at the University of South Africa. Then I did my Master’s in Clinical Psychology at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
In my social work training and career, I have worked at Drakenstein Prison, Alexandra Psychiatric Hospital, and community clinics in Soweto under the Gauteng Department of Health. These experiences allowed me to engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds and deepened my understanding of the many ways psychological distress can present.
I completed my psychology internship at Sterkfontein Psychiatric Hospital, where I conducted forensic psychiatric enquiries, individual and group therapy, neuropsychological assessments, and participated in academic training. I went on to complete my community service at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, where I worked in the Neuropsychiatry specialty clinic, HIV specialty clinic and the Maternal Mental Health specialty clinic. During this time, I provided individual therapy, facilitated group therapy for people living with Parkinson’s, HIV, and caregivers, conducted family therapy, completed renal assessments, and consulted across various medical wards.
I am deeply passionate about mental wellbeing and recognise the courage it takes to seek support. I welcome individuals with a wide range of concerns and aim to create a space that feels safe, respectful, and non-judgemental. My interventions are based on evidence based therapeutic interventions which are tailored to the person in front of me and the issues they present with. My work is grounded in warmth, empathy, genuineness, and openness, and I am committed to walking alongside each person as they work towards healing and growth.
